Twilight film adaptation lands 11 awards

10th August 2009

A film based on Stephenie Meyer's acclaimed vampire series has scooped 11 awards in Los Angeles.

The screen version of Twilight was honoured at the Teen Choice Awards with trophies in the best drama, romance, movie villain and soundtrack categories, among others.

Stars of the show Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart walked away with acting prizes for their roles.

Twilight is Meyer's first novel, based on characters she dreamt up in June 2003.

It debuted in 2005 at number five in the New York Times bestseller list within weeks of its release.

Its sequel, New Moon, was released in 2006, followed by Eclipse a year later and the final book in the saga, Breaking Dawn, another 12 months after.

The series has continued to grow in popularity, with the latest book selling 1.3 million copies within 24 hours of release.
