November New Writers' Evening
Ever on the hunt for new literary voices, we bring together a panel of authors and an audience of readers to explore the road to publication and what lies beyond. This November we welcome writers Natasha Pulley and Vaseem Khan to the stage.
Creative Writing graduate Natasha Pulley has gone from publishing astronomy and maths books to penning the runaway success The Watchmaker of Filigree Street--a genre-busting tale of destiny, rival geniuses and clockwork set in a magical realist vision of the nineteenth-century. Already an international bestseller, this electrifying historical fantasy has established Pulley as very much an author to watch.
Vaseem Khan joins us to discuss the inspiration behind his debut novel The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra--the first in a series of detective novels that sees the retired Inspector Chopra unravelling mysteries across the grand high rises and sprawling slums of Mumbai. London-born Khan moved to India in 1997--an initially short-term trip that turned into a decade-long stay and a deep love for the country of his father's birth.
Join us for a drink as we settle down to listen to our evening's speakers discussing the development of their work and how they secured industry support—then get ready to ask your own questions! Whether you're looking for your next great read or simply interested in others' creative processes, the focus of the night is on discovering new voices in contemporary literature, providing insight into how these authors write and hearing what it's like to be an author at the start of your career.
