Famous Five tops favourite children's book list

Enid Blyton's Famous Five adventures remain the favourite childhood books among the UK's adults, the latest nationwide poll reveals.
The survey of 20,000 people, carried out by Plan UK, found that 30 per cent of adults rank Blyton's series as the best childhood books, edging out Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which came second with 22 per cent of the vote.
The third most popular children's book among UK adults is C. S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, which garnered 19 cent of the vote, while Anna Sewell's Black Beauty was fourth and A. A. Milne's Winnie the Pooh rounded out the top five.
Four out of five of the survey's respondents said that they would read their favourite childhood books to their own children, while 26 per cent revealed that their oldest children's book had been passed down through generations.
The poll was conducted to promote Plan UK's new Facebook app, which aims to raise awareness of the number of illiterate young people around the world.
According to the charity, 75 million girls worldwide are currently not in education, while 80 million young women between the ages of 15 and 24 cannot read or write.
