Bradley Wiggins autobiography paves way for Olympic books

Bradley Wiggins' historic achievements in the saddle this year are to be documented in a new autobiography, which is set to pave the way for several more books by Great Britain's successful Olympians.

Wiggins became the first British winner in the history of the Tour de France in July, then followed it up with his fourth Olympic gold medal and seventh medal in all in the road race time trial at the Olympic Games less than two weeks later, making him the most decorated British Olympian of all time.

The 32-year-old, whose first autobiography In Pursuit of Glory was released in 2008, is now set to document his achievements in a follow-up entitled Bradley Wiggins: My Time, which will be published in November.

As well as focusing on his successes, the book will also explore the cyclist's struggles over the last four years, including his difficult campaigns in the 2010 and 2011 Tour de France races and his life off the bike.

Matt Phillips, editorial director at Yellow Jersey Press, which has acquired world rights in all languages for the book, described Wiggins as a 'bona fide superstar'.

'Over the last 12 months the British public have taken him into their hearts as much for his humility as for his achievements on the bike.

'In a world where too many of our sports heroes speak like PR automatons, Bradley's refreshing candour means that every word is worth soaking up,' he added.

The autobiography is likely to be the first of many written by Britain's triumphant Olympians, following one of the most successful Games in history for Team GB.

Publishers are currently attempting to secure the rights for new books by Wiggins' fellow cyclists Sir Chris Hoy and Victoria Pendleton, as well as the athletes Mo Farah and Jessica Ennis.
