The Roald Dahl Funny Prize

The Roald Dahl Funny PrizeThe Roald Dahl Funny Prize, named in honour of the universally loved author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and many more, was set up in 2008 by Michael Rosen, then Children's Laureate, who chairs the panel of five judges each year.

The aim is to promote the feel-good factor when reading, to boost the profile of humorous books and to encourage family togetherness through sharing funny books. Rosen explained, 'I have sat on judging panels before and what happens is that the funny books get squeezed out, because somehow or other they don't tackle big issues in the proper way.'

There are two prizes, one aimed at books for the six and under age group, the other for seven- to fourteen-year-olds. The winning authors each receive £2500.

The 2013 winners were announced on 6th November. The younger age group prize went to Monkey Nut by Simon Rickerty and the winning book for older readers was I Am Still Not a Loser by Jim Smith.
