Synopsis

Old House, New Life presents 18 private historic homes, from North America to Europe, and traces the ingenious ways architects such as Allan Greenberg, Brian Messana and Toby O'Rorke, Lorcan O'Herlihy, Lewis Tsurumaki Lewis, and many more have revitalised and refreshed them for a new generation. Most of the renovation occurred in the last decade, but all of the homes have origins reaching back into the past, in some cases hundreds of years. Projects and firms featured include: Casa Delpin, Puerto Rico, Nataniel Fuster. In the UK: Hunsett Mill, Acme; Cotswolds House, Richard Found; Cob Corner, David Sheppard; Astley Castle, Witherford Watson Mann; Wakelins, James Gorst; Collage House, Jonathan Tuckey; the White House, William Tunnell. In the US: New York Townhouse, Lewis Tsurumaki Lewis; Leeper-Bueno Residence, Briggs Knowles Architecture + Design; Greenwich House, Allan Greenberg; Ten Broeck Cottage, Messana O'Rorke; Bragg Avenue, Hillworks: Landscape + Architecture; Morgan Loft, Design Initiative; Sallick House, Livingston Elder; Shulman House, Lorcan O'Herlihy; Ike House, John Ike; Longbranch, Jim Olson.

An architecture and design author and journalist, Marc Kristal is a past contributing editor at Dwell, a former editor of AIA/J, and has written for Metropolis, the New York Times, Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, Wallpaper, and numerous other publications. Kristal has written, coauthored, or contributed to 30 books, including Re:Crafted, Immaterial World, and Magni Modernism.
