Synopsis

Rarely does a new development act as a fitting counterpoint to a city's natural features. However, with the Aurora Place/Macquarie Apartments complex, the critically acclaimed architect, Renzo Piano, has made a major addition to the Sydney city skyline. This is the first high-rise building designed by the Renzo Piano Workshop and within its curved and slender profile are numerous innovative design concepts including elevated plazas where people can meet outdoors without exiting the building. Aurora Place and Macquarie Apartments exhibit refinements of many of the themes for which Renzo Piano is famous. This is a detailed study of a single development. It features many colour photographs, drawings and sections.
