Synopsis

Containing a brief outline and history of the 59th Regiment (2nd Nottinghamshire Regiment), which mainly comprised men from the Midlands area, this work presents biographical details of the officers and men who served during the period 1793-1830, and were awarded medals. They are listed by campaign and surname index. For each individual, the following may be listed: the date of birth; the date of enlistment; last recorded date when known to be alive or date of death; rank; promotions; physical description; reason for discharge; detail of wounds; when pensioned and amount of pension; service in other regiments; and awards. Where medals have appeared in the market, or have been noted in private collections, details are shown. The work records the details of almost 3000 men and should be of interest to genealogists as well as military historians and medal collectors. It includes an M.G.S. roll, Waterloo roll (with a complete list of those involved in the Seahorse disaster), Army of India roll, and lists of casualities for the Peninsular War, Java, Waterloo and Army of India.
