The Sociopolitical Dimension of Design is a collection of interviews conducted with the goal of creating a productive, critical analysis of design as a major social factor in the construction of the present and future. In conversations with experts in various fields of design, topics ranging from access to the field and the role of the designer as intermediary between the client and user - in the sense of design advocacy - to the subversive potential of design are explored. It is not about reducing design to its aesthetic dimensions, but rather about working out its social and political impact. Stefanie Vera Baur is a sociologist and culture and iconography theorist. Cofounder and codirector of the postgraduate program Civic City at HEAD in Geneva, and of the Institute for Critical Research and Sciences in Design, Paris, she is also a member of the board of directors for the Society for Interdisciplinary Image Studies (GIB) and was co-director of the institute Design2context at the Zurich University of the Arts.
