Synopsis

This work is a companion piece to an exhibition of the same title, which is open at The Jewish Museum, New York, in March 2001. The display features work of 12 artists who use the unsettling imagery of the Nazi era and the Holocaust to explore the nature of evil. In challenging mass media desensitization toward violence, the artists appropriate common artifacts of the everyday

Norman L. Kleeblatt is the Susan and Elihu Rose Curator of Fine Arts at The Jewish Museum in New York. He has organized exhibitions such as John Singer Sargent: Portraits of the Wertheimer Family and Too Jewish?: Challenging Traditional Identities (accompanying catalogue from Rutgers University Press).
