Synopsis

This is the story of Timothy Brannan, a young lad born in the fictional town of Outley, South Yorkshire. It was here in Outley that young Timothy, who was known affectionately as Tim by his family and friends, grew up. It tells of the harsh treatment he endured during his school days from teachers, headmaster and the parish priest. Timothy was truly loved by his parents and he in return loved them. But it was his father whom he adored most and cherished every moment they spent together. Sadly those happier times were to come to an end when in September 1940 his father, who was beyond military call up age, volunteered and joined the army. After saying his farewells to his wife Samuel bent down, placing his calloused hands upon his eight year old son's shoulders. In his strong Yorkshire Tyke dialect he said 'Nar listen here young 'un, thars man of house now til I get's back so it's up to thee to look after and protect your mum choose what. Thar must do whatever thar mums tells thee to do cos she knoss best! Nar does thar understand what I'm telling thee, will thee promise me this son?' With tears flowing down his cheeks Timothy nodded his head then replied, 'Yes Dad, I promise.'

Throughout the years ahead Timothy kept that promise he made to his father. But by doing so, little did he know that it would change his life forever.
