Synopsis

Following the retreat from Dunkirk in May 1940 during the Second World War, the children who were evacuated from London to Hastings were sent away and the local children evacuated with their schools on the 21st July. No one it seems had contemplated the threat of invasion from the sea, in spite of the knowledge of '1066 and all that.' These stories give us the opportunity to experience the 'evaporation' of their childhood and consider the success or failure of the exodus.
