JEANNE TOWER is a well-known character in the little seaside town of Swanage in Dorset where she has lived for nearly forty years. Indomitable and engaging, full of fun and laughter for her ninety years, she has a list of ailments almost as long as her arm and her mobility is severely restricted by arthritis, yet still she takes herself off to London by taxi a couple of times a month to see one of her favourite shows and enjoy a good lunch into the bargain - especially if there's a restaurant with a good deal going! Undaunted by her disabilities, you will see her inside the Bath Travel Shop, probably booking her next cruise to somewhere exotic, or if there's a charity bazaar going on in the town, Jeanne will be at the head of the queue, ready to buy all kinds of things that she really does not need! Born as the sixth child into a poor family in Sheerness, Kent, her father worked his way up the ladder in the engineering and building industries to achieve a certain amount of success, then squandered his inheritance from his millionaire father, only to leave his wife and five children poverty stricken again when he died.

Jeanne and her brothers and sisters followed their careers through war torn London, in the Home Counties and even abroad and all of them achieved success, especially her brother James who was a very successful artist and potter. It is certainly a tale of rags to riches and this is Jeanne's story...
