Die Reihe VII beginnt mit der Publikation der Leibnizschen nachgelassenen Schriften zur Mathematik aus der Zeit seines Pariser Aufenthalts (ca. acht bis zehn Bande). Die geometrischen Schriften im Band 1 umfassen unter anderem Arbeiten zu Konstruktionsproblemen, zur Dreieckslehre und zur euklidischen Elementargeometrie. Unter den zahlentheoretischen Schriften sind Arbeiten zur unbestimmten Analytik und zu diophantischen Gleichungen zu nennen, die vor allem von Bachet, Arnauld und Fermat mitangeregt wurden. Aus den umfangreichen algebraischen Schriften werden vorerst nur die mit gewisser Sicherheit auf die Jahre 1672 bis 1674 zu datierenden Studien veroffentlicht, so z. B. die Arbeiten zur Verhaltnislehre, die Versuche, Gleichungen zweiten Grades in rationale Zahlen zu losen, und die fruhen Studien zur Gleichungslehre, die in engem Anschlu an die Geometrie von Descartes entstanden.
