The Curl is a perennial that has withered and re-grown itself throughout the years overseas, in the Caribbean, long before I was born. I wanted our urban community here in the United Kingdom to systematically irrigate, adapt and re-brand our common united bond, to bequeath to our offspring, with the growth and power of, for want of a better word, a lottery for tumultuous gain. But something was missing. We needed a purpose; a symbol, a ceremony or both. If it didn't exist then it exists now in every mind that chooses to embrace it.

Raymond George Ward. Born 1960 to Jamaican parents, the 5th eldest of seven children. New friends, hand-made go-karts, GBP.s.d., head scarves, mini-skirts, shiny red E-type Jags and Routemasters. We were so innocent, too trusting and foolish. A 'day dreamer', remarked an old report later on, believing that something was out there for us, not realising that we'd have to create it ourselves. Yet it dwelled in the hearts and minds, in the ships and planes of every migrant from every part of the Caribbean. They did as best they could. It was passed down. It was ours to make amends, to nurture and to drag it kicking and screaming into an infrastructure of financial clout, power and respect in the 21st century. So I'm asking myself and my peers, what have I passed down and where is my legacy?
