Synopsis

The New York Yankees are the most famous team in sports history. Whether you are a sports fan or not, everyone knows the Yankees. And deservedly so. Between their humble beginning in 1903 at the New York Highlanders and today's star-studded team, the Yankees have won 27 World Championships, more titles than any other professional sports franchise in history. Since 1 951, The Topps Company has been as much a part of baseball as the Yankees. From their first baseball card set, the quirky "Red and Blue" cards, to their latest series, Topps has allowed millions of fans to celebrate the game and players through its familiar photos-on-cardboard format. How, for the very first time, the Yankees and Topps are joined together in a fascinating and unique book. Yankee Greats identifies the 1 00 most cherished players in the team's storied history; from Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig to Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano.

Bob Woods is a freelance writer who grew up in upstate New York during the 1950s and '60s, loving the Yankees and collecting Topps baseball cards. His career intersected with Topps when he teamed up with them to crate Topps Magazine. The quarterly publication, which merged baseball coverage with card collecting was published from 1990-94. Since then Woods has continued writing about baseball, sports in general and various other topics and his ongoing association with Topps has ultimately led to this labor of love.
