Cette approche inedite de Madame Bovary souligne les points de convergence entre l'economie politique et la litterature. Selon cette optique, le texte de Flaubert ne parle pas tant de l'economie qu'il ne parle l'economie: certaines lois regissant le liberalisme structurent aussi les metaphores textuelles. Flaubert donne a lire une societe utilitaire au sein de laquelle l'heroine, Emma, refuse d'etre constituee selon la thematique du calcul previsionnel. Sa fuite dans un imaginaire de gratuite echoue cependant et ses tentatives se reduisent le plus souvent a l'achat de desirs sur le marche des echanges. La prodigalite d'Emma n'est qu'une aspiration falsifiee a une vie aristocratique dans une societe ou la bourgeoisie triomphe par l'accumulation et le profit.

De nationalite francaise, elle a obtenu une Licence et une Maitrise d'Anglais de l'Universite de Paris (Sorbonne Nouvelle), Puis un D.E.A. en Civilisation britannique. Elle est egalement diplomee de l'Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris, section Politique Economique et Sociale. Elle a recu son Doctorat americain de University of Oregon. Ses articles ont ete publies dans Diacritics, Nineteenth-Century French Studies et Rodopi Perspectives on Modern Literature.
