Synopsis

This pack of books from "The Trailblazers" series is designed for guided reading. The pack is one of six themed packs containing six copies of six different titles from the series. "Amazing 'Scary'" includes "Mummies", "Vampires", "Spies", "Crime", "Plagues", and "Fear". "The Trailblazers" series has been written for a reading age of 6 - 8. The books are suitable for general reading, or as part of a more structured reading programme. Each book is on a strong, popular topic, with a colourful, attractive layout - all designed to excite the imagination of inquisitive, energetic Year 3 and 4 boys and girls. Each book has a non-fiction and a fiction section. The non-fiction section offers six double-page, illustrated spreads: each spread is self-contained, and covers a particular aspect of the title concerned, thus offering greater flexibility in lesson-planning. The fiction story appears in two formats: the full story is in chapter-book format, suitable for progressing readers; but on each facing page, which features the accompanying illustrations, there is also a speech bubble version of the same story, for those who are just starting to learn to read.

These two levels of entry give access points for children with different reading ages and abilities. The vocabulary of each book is carefully selected, with uncomplicated sentences to reinforce reading skills: the combination makes the books ideal for developing reading skills.
