Synopsis

"Nothing has been heard of them, nor has any trace been found of the missing boys. The countryside is being scoured. So far without success. It is believed that some disaster has overtaken them as no word has been received from the runaways. They had no money with them and as far is known no food of any sort."

Three brothers run away from home to live like Robin Hood and his Merry Men, deep in the forest of Brendon Chase. They make their camp in an ancient oak tree and live like outlaws, loving the danngers and excitements of their wild surroundings. Their aim is never to be caught - but how can they avoid all the people who are searching for them - including the police?

Author Choice

My childhood favourite; the English answer to Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. It's Philip Pullman's favourite boyhood novel too. Set in the early 1900s, it is the story of three schoolboy brothers who run away from an oppressive regime at their maiden aunt's house deep in the Kent countryside, and live for a year in the eponymous forest. Spellbinding.
