Synopsis

Bruce Ellis explains the concepts associated with troubleshooting on OpenVMS, along with methods to view and resolve troubleshooting issues, using Availability Manager (AM) as a primary tool. He addresses OpenVMS troubleshooting using a unique and practical format. He leads the user to describe the conceptual framework surrounding the troubleshoooting issue: What are the OpenVMS principles and mechanisms surrounding the issue? Why and when do problems occur? How are the symptoms of the problem reported? How are the problems reported by Availability Manager? What other methods are available in OpenVMS to detect the problem? How do you resolve the problem? What is the short term OpenVMS solution using Availability Manager. If there are other methods of resolving the problem, what are they? What is the long term solution to the problem? The Availability Manager is a powerful tool for troubleshooting OpenVMS process and system hangs. Using this book should provide the system manager with the conceptual background to interpret the information being displayed.
