Guide to Independent Schools 09/10

Guide to Independent Schools 09/10 (Paperback)

Unavailable. No reason given.

Independent schools in the UK vary widely in terms of their size and their strengths. A great many offer scholarships to gifted students which can reduce fees dramatically. This book brings together all of this information about independent schools so the parents can compare them based on a variety of factors: history, academic focus, entrance exams, sporting achievements and facilities, attitudes towards discipline, religion and exams, arts facilities, school trips and exchanges. The book contains unique features such as 'at a glance' profiles for quick access to information and comprehensive maps showing where all of the schools are located. Also included is information about where the school is located and the relationship between students and teachers. This can show parents how their child would fit in and develop at the school and ensure that they choose the most suitable learning environment for their child.

About the editors: Klaus Boehm has developed a wide range of reference books with a number of publishers. Titles include Dictionary of the History of Science, British Archives, The Royal & Ancient Golfer's Handbook, The Macmillan Nautical Almanac and prize-winning The European Community. Jenny Lees-Spalding was academic registrar at what is now London Metropolitan University, working with students on first degree courses. She has since been involved with undergraduate programmes based at City University and the Open University. She is a governor of an HMC school. Their other joint titles include The Student Book (published this year as Guide to UK Universities 2010), the leading guide for sixth formers planning to go on to university; and Independent Careers (a guide to becoming your own boss). All their books share a common philosophy: readers are intelligent people who make their own choices; reference works are a good starting point for preliminary investigations and developing a strategy but are no substitute for primary sources. Both editors have children who were educated at independent secondary schools.
