Synopsis

Nach 1945 herrscht unter westeuropaischen Intellektuellen der Konsens, da sich literarisch 'hochwertige' Kunstler in den totalitaren Systemen des 20. Jahrhunderts nicht kompromittiert haben. Dahinter steht die Uberzeugung, dass asthetisches Gelingen und politisch-ethisches Versagen a priori unvereinbar sind. Anhand von drei Fallstudien- Curzio Malaparte (1898-1957), Louis-Ferdinand Celine (1894-1961) und Gottfried Benn (1886-1956)- untersucht Astrid Arndt, wie das literarische Feld mit Autoren umgeht, die dieses vielleicht brisanteste Axiom der Asthetik im 20. Jahrhundert erschuttern. Alle drei Autoren sind einerseits durch ihre Schriften und ihr personliches Verhalten in Diskredit geraten, gelten aber andererseits als valide Kandidaten fur den literarischen Kanon. In der Arbeit geht es dezidiert nicht darum, die Berechtigung literarischer Werturteile in Frage zu stellen. Vielmehr geht es darum, die ideologischen Pramissen transparent zu machen, die den untersuchten (De-)Kanonisierungsprozessen zugrunde liegen. Dabei lassen sich paradigmatische Argumentationsstrukturen beobachten, die sich- wie sich anhand aktueller Debatten (z.B. Peter Handke, Martin Walser) nachweisen lasst- bis heute halten.
