Synopsis

Fr. Th. Vischer ist in erster Linie als einflussreicher Aesthetiker und scharfsinniger Literaturkritiker bekannt. Im Gegensatz zu seinen theoretischen Schriften ist sein Roman Auch Einer (1878) weitgehend in Vergessenheit geraten. Dies ist erstaunlich, wenn man bedenkt, dass sich Auch Einer einer grossen Popularitaet erfreute und seine unkonventionelle Form vielen Kritikern Kopfzerbrechen bereitete. Entweder kritisierten sie die scheinbare Formlosigkeit, oder sie konnten die komplexe Struktur nicht mit ihrer Vorstellung vom Genre Roman in Einklang bringen. Die vorliegende Studie zeigt anhand einer detaillierten Strukturanalyse, dass die eigenwillige Form des Romans in engem Zusammenhang mit der pessimistischen Aussage steht: das Scheitern des Protagonisten an der Welt schlaegt sich im Polyperspektivismus, dem damit verbundenen Verlust eines festen Standpunktes, der stofflichen Reduktion des Romangeschehens, der Aufhebung der chronologischen Kontinuitaet und der Aufloesung der Romanform nieder.
