Synopsis

Tout le monde connait le Huon de Bordeaux en vers heroiques (1216?), qui a la particularite d'etre a la fois une chanson de geste et un veritable roman d'aventures. Il existe en ancien et en moyen francais trois versions de cette oeuvre: une version epique en laisses decasyllabiques (c'est celle qui est mentionnee plus haut), une version en vers dodecasyllabiques rimes (XVeme), ainsi qu'une version manuscrite en prose datant de 1454. Cette derniere, perdue, ne nous est parvenue que dans des imprimes datant du XVIeme siecle. La presente edition critique du remaniement en prose du Huon (avec introduction, notes, et glossaire) est fondee sur le texte de tous les imprimes anterieurs a 1550, qui sont au nombre de six. Le texte de base, cependant, sur lequel repose cette edition critique est celui de Michel Le Noir, publie a Paris en 1513.

Michel J. Raby est associate professor a Auburn University, en Alabama. Apres avoir fait des etudes d'anglais a Nanterre (Universite de Paris X), il a fait des etudes en litterature francaise a l'Universite de l'Iowa ou il a obtenu sa maitrise et son doctorat. Il a publie plusieurs articles sur la litterature francaise du Moyen Age dans des revues specialisees en Europe et aux Etats-Unis.
