Titulaire d'un Ph.D. d'Indiana University, il est aujourd'hui associate professor a Georgetown University. Il est l'auteur de Rodenbach, Les decors de silence et de nombreux autres travaux consacres a la poesie du XIXe et a la pensee du XVIIe.
