Connue pour son celebre salon de l'hotel de Nevers ou elle recut pendant plus de vingt ans (1710-1733) des ecrivains, des savants et des artistes - tels Montesquieu, Fontenelle et Marivaux - la Marquise de Lambert jouit aussi en son temps d'une solide reputation litteraire. Sa pensee feministe, ce- pendant, a ete diversement et bien souvent faussement interpretee certains trouvant la Marquise trop tiede dans son feminisme, d'autres allant jusqu'a l'accuser d'antifeminisme meme! L'etude detaillee de son essai, Reflexions nouvelles sur les femmes, le plus original et le plus personnel de tous ses ecrits, montre, bien au contraire, que Madame de Lambert, mettant directement le monde masculin en accusation, sut passer et s'elever de constatations hardies, de reprimandes et d'accusations vives et manifestes, a de fortes et franches revendications. Et que, ce faisant, elle a bel et bien pose de nouveaux jalons pour la condition feminine.
