Synopsis

Essayiste accompli et novateur, auteur de contes rejouissants et instructifs, scenariste sensible, journaliste provocateur, Patrick Chamoiseau est d'abord et surtout un romancier hors du commun. Dans ce premier livre voue exclusivement a son ÷uvre, Lorna Milne se concentre sur la representation de quatre espaces privilegies de l'imaginaire chamoisien : la cale du bateau negrier, le marche foyolais, l'habitat creole et le (sous-)bois. Enfin, l'examen de ces quatre espaces jette une lumiere nouvelle sur la thematique de l'ecriture elle-meme. Cet essai propose une analyse nuancee du projet ethique et esthetique d'un ecrivain-phare de la region caribeenne.

Lorna Milne est l'auteur de L'Evangile selon Michel: la Trinite initiatique dans l'÷uvre de Tournier (Rodopi, 1994), co-editeur (avec John Gaffney) de French Presidentialism and the Election of 1995 (Ashgate, 1997), editeur de Caribbean Connections (Forum for Modern Language Studies, numero special, 2004) et editeur de Representations of Violence, Culture and Identity in the Francophone Ex-Colonies (Peter Lang, a paraitre). Elle enseigne le francais a l'universite de St Andrews (Ecosse).
