Catherine has been enjoying the single life for long enough to know a good catch when she sees one. Gorgeous, charismatic, spontaneous - Lee seems almost too perfect to be true. And her friends clearly agree, as each in turn falls under his spell. But there is a darker side to Lee. His erratic, controlling and sometimes frightening behaviour means that Catherine is increasingly isolated. Driven into the darkest corner of her world, and trusting no one, she plans a meticulous escape. Four years later, struggling to overcome her demons, Catherine dares to believe she might be safe from harm. Until one phone call changes everything. This is an edgy and powerful first novel, utterly convincing in its portrayal of obsession, and a tour de force of suspense.

Customer Reviews

From the moment I started to read Elizabeth Haynes debut novel I was hooked!! It's not my usual sort of read, but I had been pre-warned to perhaps not read it at bedtime! I really loved the structure of the book. The two time frames worked so well and kept you guessing how the main character could have gone from a fun loving party girl, to a woman so severely crippled by the emotional and mental constraints of her OCD (and what has caused it) that you feel it's a wonder that she ever leaves her house at all. The structure and pace of the story line have you wanting to read on and on to find out what has happened to the central character. Although some of the language and passages of the book are very hard to read because of the subject matter, you just have to keep reading to see what happens next. To say that my heart was racing at many moments during the book in an understatement - my heart almost pounded right out of my chest!!! At times the subject matter is so difficult to read because of the violence of what is happening that I very nearly had to stop reading - but my desire to keep reading overcame my nervous disposition....just! What a wonderful first novel. I will look forward with eager anticipation to see what else this author produces - hope I don't have to wait too long!! A fabulous debut novel!!
