Synopsis

The acclaimed international bestseller of the Tudor court, during the years of Henry VIII's pursuit of Anne Boleyn - and the revolutionary sequence of events that followed.

This chance for us Howards comes once in a century...

1521. Henry VIII rules over a fashionable court alive with pageant and celebration, the lack of a son his only threat. When young Mary Boleyn arrives at court, she becomes his new mistress, an unwitting pawn in the ambitions of the powerful Boleyn and Howard families.

As Henry's interest begins to wane, the Boleyns scheme to put forward Mary's sister, Anne. Yet Anne Boleyn, newly returned from the French court, won't agree to be Henry's mistress - only his wife.

Pitting the king's desperation for an heir against the advice of his powerful advisors, Wolsey and Cromwell, what follows will change the course of a country's history.

Philippa Gregory was an established historian and writer when she discovered her interest in the Tudor period and wrote the internationally bestselling novel The Other Boleyn Girl, which became a major film starring Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson. Her Cousins' War novels were the basis for the highly successful BBC series, The White Queen. Philippa's other great interest is the charity that she founded twenty years ago: Gardens for The Gambia. She has raised funds and paid for over 200 wells in the primary schools of this poor African country. Philippa is a former student of Sussex University and a PhD and Alumna of the Year 2009 of Edinburgh University. In 2016, she was presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Historical Fiction Award by the Historical Writers' Association. Her love for history and commitment to historical accuracy are the hallmarks of her writing. Philippa lives with her family on a small farm in Yorkshire and welcomes visitors to her site www.PhilippaGregory.com. You can also find her on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

I like Philippa Gregory, very much. She and I got drunk in Ireland once, which is a good place to get drunk. I also once received an enormous, rambling email of poetry, hundreds and hundreds of lines of it. It was written by a Finn, so much of it was quite dark and depressing. In something of a daze, I read it through to the very end, where he mentioned that he’d sent it all first to Philippa Gregory - and she’d recommended me as someone who would truly appreciate it. The woman is wicked, you know, but by God, she can write. Gregory knows how to tell a story – she’s the classic example of page-turning writers, who keep their poor readers up to four in the morning just to see what happens next. When she weaves fiction into the history, it works incredibly well. Read one and you’ll read them all, but begin with The Other Boleyn Girl.
