Synopsis

The book explores the life and career of Sarah Siddons (1755-1831), the famed English actress who revolutionised eighteenth-century English theatre while creating a public persona to promote herself. A lavish volume, the book brings together fifty-five portraits of Siddons including works by Sir Joshua Reynolds, Thomas Gainsborough, George Romney and Gilbert Stuart.
