Synopsis

This collection of six plays by one of South Africa's leading playwright/actors features works written between 1984 and 1993. Slabolepszy has won numerous awards in South Africa and abroad both for his plays and for his performances in them. He aims to capture the essence of the personality and speech patterns of his protagonists in accessible language which is often dramatic, frequently funny, sometimes tragic and always entertaining. The works included in this book are ""Under the Oaks"" (1984), ""Over the Hill"" (1985), ""Travelling Shots"" (1988), ""Smallholding"" (1989), ""The Return of Elvis Du Pisanie"" (1992) and ""Mooi Street Moves"" (1993). ""Elvis"" won Slabolepszy the 1992/93 IGI Life Vita Award for Play of the Year and, together with ""Mooi Street Moves"", gained him the Vita Playwright of the Year Award. The collection is introduced by Robert Greig, a leading South African drama critic.
