Synopsis

Das Buch bietet einen ersten Ueberblick ueber das Leben und Schaffen des aus Boehmen stammenden Autors Otto Fuerth (1894-1979). Nach Jahren russischer Kriegsgefangenschaft machte sich Fuerth im Wien der zwanziger und dreissiger Jahre einen Namen als Verfasser unterhaltsamer Komoedien. Die erfolgreichste unter ihnen, Der Mann ohne Privatleben, wurde 1931 im Volkstheater uraufgefuehrt. Nach der Emigration (1939) baute sich Fuerth in den Vereinigten Staaten eine neue Existenz auf. Die Prosawerke der Kriegs- und Nachkriegszeit zeigen den gefaehrdeten Menschen, aber auch die hoffnungsvolle Vision einer Menschheit, die ueber das Primitive und Grausame siegt und zu wahrer Humanitaet vorstoesst.

Die Autorin: Ursula Macris wurde in Jena geboren, wuchs in der Bundesrepublik auf und unterrichtet seit mehreren Jahren am Hartwick College im amerikanischen Bundesstaat New York. Nach einem Magisterabschluss vom Middlebury College in Vermont promovierte sie an der State University of New York in Albany. Vor ihrer jetzigen Stellung war sie Assistentin am Middlebury College und Dozentin am State University of New York College in Oneonta.
