Brechts episches Theater, einer der wichtigsten modernen Beitraege zur Weltbuehne, begeistert weiterhin Theaterbesucher und Leser. Das vorliegende Buch erforscht die formal-aesthetischen Aspekte der Kreidekreisstuecke Bertolt Brechts und Li Xingdaos, seines chinesischen Vorgaengers aus dem 13. Jahrhundert. Der Autor versucht, sich dadurch mit der Theorie des epischen Theaters auseinanderzusetzen. Er analysiert eingehend die auffaelligen theatralischen Darstellungsmittel der beiden Theaterstuecke und zeigt, dass die epischen Theater Brechts und Lis sich nicht nur durch das Epische, sondern vor allem durch das Theatralische auszeichnen. Dieses Theatralische umfasst neben dem Epischen alle undramatischen Elemente, die das Dramatische als solches hervorhebt. Es kennzeichnet sich dadurch, das Bewusstsein des Publikums als Zuschauer und das der Schauspieler als Darsteller wachzuhalten und die theatralische Kommunikation zwischen ihnen zu foerdern.

Der Autor: Peter Yang erhielt seinen M.A. von der Pekinger Fremdsprachenuniversitaet und seinen Ph. D. in Germanistik von der University of Utah. Er ist Jesse Hauk Shera Assistant Professor of German und Director of Language Resources Center an der Case Western Reserve University. Neben zahlreichen Aufsaetzen in Fachzeitschriften fuer deutsche Literatur, Technologie des Spracherwerbs, Wirtschaftswissenschaft und chinesische Wirtschaftsreform schrieb er den Guide to Outward-Oriented Economies.
