Synopsis

La obra poetica de Delmira Agustini (1886-1914) sacudio y escandalizo a la intelectualidad y a la burguesia hispana de la epoca. La riqueza expresiva de sus composiciones permite nuevas y diversas lecturas. A la luz de las actuales teorias sobre critica literaria, los poemas de la escritora uruguaya revelan la enorme tension entre el discurso patriarcal y la posicion marginal de la mujer. Este estudio analiza como Agustini enfrento y resolvio dicha problematica por medio de varias estrategias: primero utilizo voz de hombre, luego de sacerdotisa erotica y por ultimo de fiera destructiva. La poeta imito, recreo y corrigio modelos modernistas y tradiciones literarias que, si bien le concedieron la fama, ocultaron su autentica humanidad.

La autora: Jacqueline Giron Alvarado es una estudiosa de la literatura hispanoamericana. Recibio el grado doctoral en The Pennsylvania State University en 1993. Ha publicado varios articulos de critica literaria y un libro de poemas y cuentos, Galeria de suenos. Ha ensenado en varias universidades en Puerto Rico y los Estados Unidos. Actualmente ensena en Louisiana State University.
