Ich versuche hier, die cerebralen Mechanismen darzustellen, weIche - so weit bisher bekannt oder empirisch naheliegend - in ihrem Zusammenwirken diese exklusiv menschliche Leistung erm6glichen, und zeige an Beispielen die Auswirkung von organischen Hirnerkrankungen auf das .Punktionsorchester" bildhaften Gestaltens. Diese Arbeit versteht sieh als fragmenthafter Beitrag zu einer neurologi- schen Betrachtung der Asthetik oder zu einer .Neuro-Asthetik." wie es Semir Zeki in seinem Buch "The inner vision" (1)ausqedriickt hat. Im Gegensatz zu Zekis Konzept beschrankt sich diese Arbeit nicht auf Beziehungen zwischen Kunst und Neurophysiologie, sondern beabsichtigteine m6glichstvieltaltiqe An- kniipfunq an klinisch-neurologische Phanomene, die das visuelle Gehirn betref- fen, und entsprechend wird illustrativen Fallbeispielen viel Raum gegeben. Die Analyse setzt auch keinen elektiven Schwerpunkt auf moderne Kunst - im Vollbewusstsein ihrer stark reflexiven Wirkung auf Teilbereiehe der visuel- len Wahrnehmung -, sondern berucksichtiqt in gr6fierem Rahmen unsere ge- qenstandhche und narrative abendlandische Maltradition.
