Synopsis

From the dawn of history, the success of empires, peoples and nations has depended on the skills of their military leaders, the power and effectiveness of the weapons available to them, the professionalism and motivation of their forces, the logic of their strategy and the ingenuity of their tactics. By investigating clashes and confrontations from the rise of the Romans to the fall of Saddam Hussein, this book provides the perfect guide to the forces that have determined the course of human history. It covers 50 key battles and campaigns, and includes the exploits and achievements of such famous figures as Caesar, Hannibal, Montgomery and Eisenhower.
