Synopsis

Este libro es un estudio semiotico de las novelas escritas en castellano en las regiones de Centro America y las Antillas durante los anos de 1925-70. El tema central de estas obras gira en torno a la presencia de las companias extranjeras, especialmente la United Fruit Company, y el control de ellas sobre la produccion de cana de azucar y bananas, como tambien el poder de la Administracion del Canal de Panama en la zona. El enfasis del analisis presentado en el texto, enfatiza tambien sobre el papel que juegan los grupos etnicos indigenas, negros y mestizos en la elaboracion artistica de las citadas novelas, a la vez que en los discursos ideologicos discutidos.
