Este estudio analiza la Cronica sarracina, una obra narrativa del siglo XV, como un texto hibrido, a fin de examinar mas detalladamente las caracteristicas epicas, novelescas, caballerescas y de otros generos que aparecen en la obra. En el analisis se concluye que el autor de la Cronica trato de relacionar los turbulentos dias finales de la nacion visigoda con la epoca en que se escribio, la caotica epoca del reinado de Juan II. El proposito de esa implicita comparacion es poner enfasis en las desastrosas consecuencias que puede tener para una nacion el antagonismo entre diferentes facciones de la clase gobernante. Tambien se concluye que en la obra la caracterizacion de los grupos sociales y politicos se conforma a la imagen tradicional que tenia de ellos la sociedad patriarcal, todavia enfrascada en una cruzada contra los moros, en que vivio su autor.

La autora: Ines de la Flor Cramer nacio en La Habana, Cuba. Obtuvo el titulo de Bachelor of Arts en historia en Kean College en New Jersey, el Master of Arts en espanol en la Universidad de Rutgers, y el Ph.D. en literatura espanola medieval en la misma universidad. Enseno en la Universidad de Rutgers desde 1991 hasta 2001, primero como Lecturer y mas tarde como Assistant Instructor. Fue Visiting Assistant Professor en la Universidad de Seton Hall desde 2001 hasta 2003. Ha presentado trabajos en Clinch Valley College de la Universidad de Virginia, en la Universidad de Cincinnati, en la Universidad de Brown, en la Universidad de North Carolina en Chapel Hill, en la Universidad de Rutgers y en la Universidad de la Ciudad de Nueva York (CUNY). Sus articulos se han publicado en Cincinnati Romance Review y en otras revistas literarias.
