Trevor Hearl MA was Senior Lecturer in Education at St Paul's College, Cheltenham. He was recognised as an authority on St Helena history and also lectured widely on the military origins of the modern school curriculum. Hearl was educated at St Paul's College, Portsmouth College and Bristol University. He first visited St Helena in 1969 on behalf of the UK's Ministry of Overseas Development to help develop a training scheme for island teachers. This led to the establishment of the St Helena Link, an educational consultancy for the island. He was a founding member of the Society of Friends of St Helena and of the History of Education Society. Alexander Hugo Schulenburg PhD studied at the universities of St Andrews and Cambridge. He is Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and was editor of Wirebird: the Journal of the Friends of St Helena from 2001 to 2010.
