Synopsis

Microelectronic devices are now mass-produced, can be found everywhere and are bringing about an unprecedented social change by providing the main stimulus to computer technology, robotics and information technology. This five-language dictionary covers the technical terms considered most important, ranging from the theoretical principles underlying microelectronics to the state-of-the-art in device fabrication and application. The dictionary contains a basic table of 8521 entries with synonyms and abbreviations, plus five indexes. Altogether, there are 12,293 items in the English index, 12,866 in the German index, 11,491 in the French, 10,956 in the Spanish, and 11,697 in the Japanese index.

The main subject areas covered are: semiconductor physics - crystals, energy bands, charge-carrier conduction, pn junctions and semiconductor surfaces; microelectronic technology - crystal growth, oxidation, doping, diffusion, ion implantation, etching, epitaxy, masking, photolithography, deposition, metallization, bonding techniques, packaging, chip and wafer; integrated circuits - integrated elements, bipolar and field-effect transistors, design, technology, fabrication, testing, digital and analog circuits, logic gates, logic families, hybrid ICs and lasers; microprocessor technique, microcomputing elements - addressing modes, instruction types, semiconductor memories and peripheral devices; The dictionary should be of interest to engineers, designers, technologists, translators, interpreters and students in the field of microelectronics.
