Synopsis

The collection provides a rich picture of the current status of theoretically guided studies on first and second language acquisition and pathology by some of the most engaged young and senior researchers. Articles ranging from the acquisition of different syntactic structures and computations to issues related to semantic interpretation and phonological analyses are presented. The book is a representative illustration of the comparative perspective in the study of language acquisition and pathology as data from several different languages are considered in fine detail in the various articles. The book will be of interest to all working on language acquisition and pathology and it will provide students with a most updated picture of the most studied current issues in the filed.

Adriana Belletti is Professor of Linguistics at the University of Siena. Her work has ranged over the years on different topics in Romance and comparative theoretical syntax and, most recently, on issues in (second) language acquisition with special emphasis on their crucial relevance in linguistic theorizing. Elisa Bennati is a doctoral student in Cognitive Sciences at the University of Siena. Her work deals with issues in adult L2 acquisition. Cristiano Chesi, PhD in Cognitive Sciences, has a teaching position of Computational Linguistics at the University of Siena. He has worked on non-standard verbal language of deaf children and on minimalist formal models of grammar. Elisa Di Domenico, PhD in Linguistics, has a teaching position at the University of Siena. Her research interests range from theoretical linguistics to language processing and impaired and L2 language acquisition. Ida Ferrari is a doctoral student in Linguistics at the Universities of Siena/Florence. Her work deals with issues in language acquisition and bilingualism.
