Synopsis

Die Begegnung mit dem 'anderen Ich' im Spiegel ist ein zentrales Thema der deutschen Literatur. Die Konfrontation mit dem eigenen Spiegelbild ist grundlegend fuer die Etablierung sowohl der eigenen Subjekt- als auch Objektposition. Nur wer sein Bild als solches erkennt und akzeptiert, ist in der Lage, beide Positionen einzunehmen. Ausgehend von Theorien Freuds und Lacans werden Spiegelszenen von den Gebruedern Grimm ueber Rilke bis hin zu Gisela Elsner analysiert. Die vorliegende Studie ist insofern bahnbrechend, als sie komparatistisch vorgeht und sich nicht auf einen Autor oder eine Epoche konzentriert. Die verschiedenen Funktionen, welche der Spiegel fuer die Konstitution von Identitaet fuer Maenner und Frauen hat, werden klar dargestellt.
