Synopsis

This report, which is produced in triennial intervals, provides an overview of the global manufacture, trade and use of amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS) and ecstasy, highlighting the nature of the ATS threat and the impact of ATS use on society. Sections show regional trends for Asia, Oceania, the Near and Middle East/South-West Asia, Europe, Africa, North America and Central and South America and the Caribbean. Focus is on countries and regions where available data suggest that the most significant changes have occurred over the past five years. Beyond this regional focus, the report highlights manufacturing methods and trends in precursors. The constraints of ATS-related data gathering, the central role of qualitative information and forensic data to understand the range of products available in illicit ATS markets are also covered in the report.
