Immunology: A University of Chicago Perspective: Special Topic Issue: Vol. 13, No. 4 (1994) Immunologic Research (Paperback)

This text highlights individual research efforts in immunology at the University of Chicago. The University has a long-standing tradition of research excellence in immunology, starting early in the 20th century with the Nobel Prize-winning work by Alexis Carel on transplantation biology. This was followed by pioneering work and important discoveries in antibody diversity and haematopoiesis. The Committee on Immunology comprises a group of basic and clinical investigators, whose ongoing research areas include T and B cell development, T and B cell signalling, antigen presentation, transplant immunology and autoimmune diseases. The eight selected reviews should provide the reader with a good overview of the type of research being conducted at the University. They should also help contribute to a better understanding of the dynamics of the immune system, as well as its development, regulation and role in disease.
