NK Cells: Adhesive Interactions, Microvasculature, Extracellular Matrices and Angiogenesis: Special Topic Issue: Vol. 15, No. 2-3 (1996/97) Natural Immunity (Paperback)

It is increasingly recognized that the physiological functions of natural killer (NK) cells, including IL-2 activated NK (A-NK) cells, are greatly influenced by their microenvironment. Such interactions involve elements of the vasculature such as microvascular endothelial cells and subendothelial extracellular matrices, particularly basement membranes. A-NK cells, for example, following their adoptive transfer, accumulate within established cancer metastases and interact with metastatic tumor cells, microvascular endothelial cells and subendothelial extracellular matrices. This publication focuses on NK cells and their interactions with the microvasculature and subendothelial extracellular matrices, both of which are important in the process of angiogenesis. The information provided improves our understanding of how these cells can best be activated for enhanced therapeutic efficacy. Authoritative and up-to-date, this publication will be essential reading for immunologists, cell biologists, tumor biologists and physicians with an interest in the natural immune system, tumor immunology and cell-cell interactions.
