Synopsis

This new anthology offers a comprehensive overview of the essential topics in juvenile delinquency and justice. The selections encompass both landmark scholarship and cutting-edge research to expose students to a wide range of theoretical and methodological approaches. Thematic section introductions provide context, while editors' notes draw attention to how a sociological perspective can deepen understanding of the topics at issue. The text uses compelling ethnographic studies to capture student interest. It addresses current concerns such as school shooters, occupational delinquency, gangsta rap, and drug courts. It highlights issues of race/ethnicity, gender, and class. It emphasizes critical approaches to adolescent subcultures and gang delinquency. It includes quantitative articles selected for their accessibility. The result is a lively and substantive grounding in the field.
