Synopsis

Den forsta upplagan av Oswald Spenglers stridsskrift Preussentum und Sozialismus kom ut i Tyskland 1919. En svensk oversattning, har atergiven i faksimil, gavs ut pa Chelius forlag tva ar senare under titeln Preusseri och socialism. For de flesta lasare torde termen "preusseri" vara synonym med kadaverdisciplin och despotiskt militarstyre. Spengler anvander emellertid begreppet for att beteckna vad han kallar "preussarandan" - en typiskt tysk, medfodd laggning som tar sig uttryck i egenskaper som pliktkansla och beredvillighet att uppoffra sig for det gemensamma basta. For Spengler ar denna preussaranda - till skillnad fran marxismen, som han kritiserar hart - liktydig med sann socialism. Spengler staller i Preusseri och socialism tva fundamentalt vasensskilda livsaskadningar mot varandra: a ena sidan den engelska liberalismen och a den andra den preussiska socialismen. Medan den engelska liberalismen praglas av langt driven individualism och hansynslos vinningslystnad betonar den preussiska socialismen samhorighet, solidaritet och folkgemenskap. Dessa bada synsatt ar oforenliga och kan inte samexistera.

Beroende pa vilken ideologi som far overtaget, kommer makten i slutanden ytterst att vila antingen hos finansiella intressen eller hos stater. Spengler uppmanar mot den bakgrunden medborgare ur alla samhallsskikt att satta klassegoismen at sidan, anamma den preussiska socialismen och sluta upp i kamp mot den liberala varldsaskadningen, det "inre Albion", som han menar utgor ett dodligt hot mot nationens fortbestand. Oswald Spengler (1880-1936), tysk historiker och filosof, ar mest kand for sin teori att civilisationer inte utvecklas linjart, utan cykliskt, och fods, blomstrar och dor pa ett satt som paminner om ett levande vasen. Spengler utvecklade teorin i sitt magnum opus Vasterlandets undergang som kom ut i tva volymer 1918 och 1922.
