L'auteur: Francois Lagarde est assistant a l'Universite du Texas a Austin ou il enseigne la litterature francaise du dix-septieme siecle. Ancien eleve de Rene Girard, il a obtenu son Ph.D. a l'Universite de Stanford (Californie) en 1985. Il a publie des articles sur Charron, Corneille, Moliere, Rotrou, La Fontaine, Pascal, Jacqueline Pascal, Bayle et Fenelon.
