Synopsis

An examination of those periods in history when the resources of the state were used to generate mass persecutions. The impact of different types of legal systems on the production of witches is examined as well as the political circumstances, strikingly consistent, that set the stage for the witch panics that fueled the witchcraze. Successive chapters discuss the Red Scare, World War I, the McCarthy era, etc. as a single class of events causing the mass production of deviance.
