Synopsis

Die Arbeit setzt sich eingehend mit Aristoteles' These auseinander, die Ortsveranderung sei in vielerlei Hinsicht die wichtigste und grundlegendste Form von Veranderung und habe insofern Prioritat uber alle anderen Veranderungsarten. Der Autor fragt in einem ersten Schritt nach der Relevanz dieser keineswegs selbstverstandlichen Prioritatsthese und ihrer Diskussion in Physik VIII. Er zeigt, dass Aristoteles' Argumente fur diese These - im Gegensatz zur bisherigen Deutung - eine wesentliche Funktion im grosseren Kontext von Physik VIII und der aristotelischen Naturphilosophie allgemein erfullen. Der Schwerpunkt der Arbeit liegt auf der genauen Rekonstruktion und Diskussion der in ihrer Komplexitat und Kurze oftmals schwierigen Argumente. Die Auseinandersetzung mit diesem bisher nicht untersuchten Aspekt der aristotelischen Naturphilosophie gibt dabei auch Aufschluss uber das Verhaltnis, das Aristoteles zufolge zwischen den verschiedenen Veranderungsarten besteht. Die Studie leistet daher einen grossen Beitrag zu einem besseren Verstandnis seiner allgemeinen Theorie der Veranderung und seiner Naturphilosophie.
